Coyote v Acme: Your Civic Duty

I was obsessed with three things in my childhood: Going to movies in actual movie theaters (The Granada and Inwood ideally), Saturday morning Warner Brothers cartoons, and rushing home from school to see the Dallas Times Herald coverage of the ongoing anti-monopoly case by the Feds against Ma Bell, because way back then there was actual antitrust enforcement and afternoon daily papers! Yay!

You know in a movie when out of the blue something ginormous happens and the camera quickly zooms in on the main characters face because the narrative shift is just so so massive, and the audience gets a wide eyed full frame world altering look directly at us?

Well friends, it is one of those moments.

This weekend, Coyote v. Acme opens and it is the most important and zeitgeisty movie to have its release suppressed since Republican oligarchs prevented The Apprentice (the movie) from being distributed and shown in theaters before the 2024 election. Really, look it up, about the US leader and Roy Cohn. Then see it. Because it's phenomenal.

Fast forward to right now.

Coyote v. Acme was filmed in New Mexico in 2022, tested wildly well with audiences then was warehoused for FOUR YEARS supposedly as a tax write off but actually because of oligarchically hoped for monopolistic consolidation of the movie business, ie Warner/Paramount. Even though it's an Oscar winning scriptwriter, star studded cast and the MF Coyote up against corporate enshittification. #heaven

A big US studio movie's success in this world is dictated by the receipts of the first weekend in the US; Friday, Saturday, Sunday together. If it underperforms it gets no marketing money, and disappears, which in this case is exactly what the oligarchs hope will happen.

But if it does well, it will go ginormous because it is so so great and so so topical.

Coyote v Acme premiers in the US Fri 28 August.....

Here's our job people.....

1. If you are not in the US, tell every person you know in the US to go see this movie, THIS WEEKEND, Sunday the very latest. Demand selfie verification for continued friendship.
2. No matter where you are, screw around on social media and like and comment and all the things, and be enthusiastic about every single post related to this, and shove it up the algorithms. #SholderToTheWheel
3. If you are in the US, decide which showing you are going to and buy tickets on line right now (plus a few extra tickets to dangle to the hesitant), then tell everybody you know which showing you are going to and that you will buy beer, dinner, mugicha, whatever afterwards. #Community

I know what you're thinking, "Gosh, a movie in a movie theater, I haven't been to a movie since 1983, or what's a movie theater? Hm, yea....not sure. This weekend is a bit tough, I was going to trim my toe nails, do laundry, and maybe massage my cat, so yea..., when will it be out on Netflix?"

OH PULEASE you big couch sloth, you will never ever again be handed an opportunity to simultaneously 1) go see a kid-friendly, adult-hilarious movie in a theater with actual Warner Brothers cartoon characters, 2) have bragging rights that you participated in the most important and fun civically minded weekend in ages, and 3) save America and the world.

It's just not gonna happen in one single fun act.
